NUCA Supports Northeast U.S. Wind Energy Development

The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) on Dec. 22 issued the following statement by NUCA Chief Advocacy Officer Affairs Zack Perconti calling for the Trump Administration to reverse its decision to pause several East Coast offshore wind projects:

Perconti

“Discounting a valuable and clean energy resource because of undefined ‘radar clutter’ isn’t the way to build our national security or America’s energy independence. NUCA and the U.S. northeast utility construction industry is against the Trump Administration’s pause in offshore wind project leases. The very thorough permitting process used for these five projects consulted many stakeholders, including the U.S. Department of Defense.

“Offshore wind diversification strengthens national security by reducing reliance on single energy sources. Natural gas, hydropower, nuclear, petroleum, wind, solar, and hydrogen all play vital roles. An ‘all-of-the-above’ energy policy is essential to meet growing electricity demands. There is also an economic cost incurred by the Administration’s decision, with up to 58,000 jobs now at risk.

“Wind energy provides or will provide over 52 gigawatts of affordable, clean electric power for eastern American cities and communities. NUCA urges the Trump Administration to reverse its decision and advance the development of offshore wind energy resources.”
