Winning Crews Awarded for 2025 HDD Rodeo Showcase at Utility Expo

HDD Rodeo Crew 2 from Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) was announced as the winning crew of the 2025 HDD Rodeo Showcase at The Utility Expo. The crew finished its 200-ft long bore with a time of 50:20.
The awards ceremony took place Oct. 9 at The Utility Expo Community Zone with Benjamin Media Inc. president Rob Krzys serving as emcee. In all four crews competed Oct. 8 following a rainout on Oct. 7.
PG&E HDD Rodeo Crew 2 bested the second place father-son duo from Ward Trenching – the 2024 HDD Rodeo winning crew. Ward Trenching finished with a time of 61:41. Third place went to PG&E HDD Rodeo Crew 1 with a time of 66:32. The fourth place crew of Ruff Restoration & Excavation finished with a time of 87:28. It was noted that the Ruff crew completed the most accurate bore of the event.
Crews completed a 200-ft long bore and were tested for accuracy at three locations. Two known potholes at 50 ft and 160 ft with a third random draw between 80 and 130 ft.
The top three crews received several prizes, as well as entry into the 2026 HDD Rodeo. The winning crew will be engraved on the Canon Cup, named in honor of late HDD drilling fluids legend Frank Canon.
Planning is already under way for the 2026 HDD Rodeo, set to take place Dec. 2-4 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia.
