McLaughlin: Two New Models Round Out a Solid Lineup

Before breaking ground on a new project, it’s important to know what buried utilities are hiding underground. Services such as One-Call are a great starting point at identifying a utility’s location, but they are not foolproof. Vacuum excavators, on the other hand, can be essential to your fleet, helping to expose utilities so you don’t cause serious and costly damage.

Vacuum excavation technology has been around in some shape or form since the 1950s. Vacuum hoses are often seen around work areas suctioning the earth to expose a utility in a fast, safe and surgical manner. Operators can safely identify and positively locate a utility — avoiding the potential of damaging it during a dig.

Product Spotlight: ECO75 and VX75
McLaughlin recently introduced two new vacuum excavators — the ECO75 truck-mounted vacuum excavator and the VX75 trailer-mounted vacuum excavator — to answer the market’s demand for a compact vacuum excavation system with a 5-in. boom option that focuses on performance and improved fuel efficiency. The ECO75 truck-mounted vacuum excavator features a 74-hp Deutz diesel engine that powers a 1,200 high cfm vacuum blower and an 8-gpm water pump capable of 3,000 psi operating pressure, making the ECO75 vacuum excavator an ideal choice for compact jobsites, production potholing, setting power poles or fluid management in directional drilling operations.

Contractors can customize the unit to meet their business needs by choosing either a 500-, 800- or 1,200-gal capacity spoil tank, as well as the option of adding a sewer jetter or air compressor to their ECO75 or VX75 vacuum excavator. By utilizing a 74-hp auxiliary engine to power the ECO75 truck-mounted version, contractors will see reduced fuel consumption compared to running the vacuum excavator off a 270-hp, PTO-driven truck engine.
