NUCA Announces 2019 Scholarship Winners

The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) has announced the recipients of its 2019 scholarships. They are:

D.A. Foster Memorial Scholarship: Cooper Edmondson is the winner and recipient of the NUCA Scholarship Foundation’s largest award, the D.A. Foster Memorial Scholarship. He’s had a well-rounded sports career at Wayne Country Day School, winning awards in cross country, basketball, baseball, track and field, and soccer. He also won the Award of Excellence with the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists. His other activities include senior class treasurer, Junior Leadership of Wayne County, and working two summers for Linton Builders and Custom Design with responsibilities large and small on their job sites. This summer, Cooper worked for T.A. Loving to gain additional experience. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing with his dog, Belle. He will be attending North Carolina State University, with the intent to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. He is the son of Kimberly and Ty Edmondson. Ty is an employee with NUCA member company T.A. Loving Company.

NUCA 4-Year ScholarshipKalyn Frostestad is the recipient of NUCA’s four-year Scholarship. She earned academic awards from Lee’s Summit North High School all four years, and graduated with a weighted GPA of 4.0 and above. She served four years in the student council and is a member of the National Honor Society. She will be attending Missouri State University, studying Animal Sciences. She is planning on attending veterinarian school, seeking to graduate in 2025. She currently works at a local veterinary clinic, working closely with clinic procedures used to care for animals. During her senior year in high school, Kalyn took night classes at the local community college and will start Missouri State with 36 hours of college credit even before starting formal university courses. Kalyn is the daughter of Kathy and Eric Frostestad. Eric is an employee with NUCA member company HDR Engineering.

William & Shirley Burgett ScholarshipAbigail Watters is the recipient of the William & Shirley Burgett Scholarship. Abigail graduated from her class at Center Grove High School as a member of the National Honor Society and the highest GPA on the basketball team, where she served for two years as captain and won the Coach’s Award. She also served on her student government, and was active in school leadership activities. She is planning on attending the University of Evansville (Ind.), majoring in biochemistry. She was one of eight students accepted in to the university’s program offering a provisional seat to the Indiana Univ. School of Medicine. Abigail plans on her education culminating in a career as either a neonatologist or a pediatrician. She has traveled four times to the Dominican Republic to complete mission work for her church. Abigail is the daughter of Kristi and Daniel Watters. Daniel is an employee with NUCA member Miller Pipeline.
