NUCA Hires New Marketing & Meetings Director
The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) announced Aug. 13 that Catie Amsden has joined NUCA to lead the association’s marketing and event programs.
“Our meetings and events are the essence of our association, providing our members professional venues to network and exchange ideas to build their businesses,” said NUCA CEO Doug Carlson. “With Catie joining our staff, our 2025 events will deliver a new experience to our attendees with increased program and professional development opportunities, as well as new social events to keep our signature events fun. Quality membership service is what we seek for our members to get the most out of their NUCA investment.”
Amsden will be the primary manager of the association’s marketing, national partner program and execute the planning for various national meetings events throughout the year. She will spearhead creating marketing content for the association for NUCA’s various meetings and events including creation of flyers, website content, social media posts, e-Blasts, content for articles, and other collateral. She will also manage NUCA’s national partner program including renewal of current sponsors and identify new business opportunities for the program.
Amsden will lead the planning of NUCA’s Annual Meeting (March 18-21, 2025), Washington Summit (May 12-14, 2025), Leadership Conference (November 6-8, 2024), the Safety/Damage Prevention Conference (January 24-25, 2025), and one Board of Directors meeting. Each of these events require complex planning for logistics, programming, site development, and member involvement to deliver a superlative experience for attendees and their guests.
“Catie brings to NUCA a tremendous wealth of meeting planning and marketing experience,” said Chris Barrett, NUCA’s chief operating officer. “With the Board’s emphasis on redeveloping the convention experience, her detailed event coordination and premium content ideas will give our 2025 Annual Meeting attendees an exciting new experience in Orlando.”
Her position before accepting NUCA’s event and marketing responsibilities was project manager of capacity building and training for Neighborworks America, where she developed and led several NeighborhoodLIFT projects. From 2019 to 2024, she managed end-to-end logistics for the project’s national meetings, special events, and on-site and virtual training sessions. From 2016 to 2019 she served as the senior meeting specialist for Neighborworks America in Washington, D.C.
She also worked from 2013 to 2016 as the admissions manager for the Casualty Actuarial Society in Arlington, Virginia, and as the Society’s volunteer and committee coordinator.
“I am thrilled to be the Director of Marketing and Meetings at NUCA,” said Amsden. “Originally from west Tennessee, I studied public relations at the University of Memphis. Upon relocating to the Washington, D.C. area, I’ve spent my career working in the trade association and nonprofit industries with a focus on event and meeting management. Most recently, I served as Project Manager with NeighborWorks America on a national downpayment assistance program.”
“I am looking forward to fully diving into this role to determine where I can make the greatest impact for NUCA, our National Partners, and the membership. I understand how important this role is for the development of effective meetings and conventions to allow leadership and members the creative space to continuously improve our industry,” concluded Amsden.
Amsden is a graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and public relations. Amsden also possesses her Project Management Professional certification from the prestigious Project Management Institute, and her event management certificate from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
