NUCA of DC Participates in ‘Where’s the $1 Billion’ Rally

NUCA of DC Participates in ‘Where’s the $1 Billion’ RallyLast month, NUCA of DC attended the “Where’s the $1 Billion” rally in downtown Washington, D.C., protesting the city government’s misuse of funding intended for small businesses. Council member Vincent B. Orange (D-At Large) said at the rally that less than 30 percent of the money the city allocates to small business is actually used to assist small businesses. Councilman Orange held the rally to object to the “deplorable” shortfall with small businesses. The councilman also said that, over the past three fiscal years, small businesses have been short-changed $1 billion. Orange introduced legislation to address the issue at a council meeting later that day. At the rally, many local small business owners, including several NUCA of DC members, underscored the importance of keeping District spending in the city and that investing in small businesses could reduce unemployment and expand the tax base, which, in turn, would have other positive effects on the community.
