NUCA of Eastern WA & North ID Dozer Day 2021 a Success
NUCA of Eastern Washington & North Idaho in partnership with the Nutter Foundation once again enjoyed a fantastic turnout as they filled the Cabela’s parking lot during their 2nd annual Dozer Day event at Cabela’s Stateline in Post Falls, Idaho.
Over 2,500 children, parents, grandparents, and members of the community came out to learn about the construction industry and utility community. In addition to putting kids actually on and operating over 25 pieces of heavy equipment including loaders, excavators and compaction rollers, Dozer Day exposed its attendees to activities and displays from our local police, contractors, equipment providers and power company.
After touring the SWAT vehicle manned by Post Falls Police Department, kids were able to climb up on the giant tires normally used for heavy off-road machines at the Les Schwab tire crawl followed by a little hammer and nails action at the Inland NW AGC display. Avista joined in the fun with their show stopping electric trailer where an experienced lineman demonstrated the electrifying “Do’s and Don’ts” of how to manage exposure to a downed line or a kite in a tree as well as utilizing their Natural Gas personnel to talk about Natural Gas Safety. As the kids continued to run from station to station collecting their hard hat stickers to complete their scavenger hunt, they were able to slide down the zip line provided by United Rentals Trench Safety who displayed their trench boxes to educate the community about utilizing shoring while practicing safe excavation.
While a necessary reschedule due to COVID delayed Dozer Day from the standard third weekend in May, the weekend of Sept. 11-12 presented an opportunity to have an additional element of patriotism as many of our sponsors displayed American flags paying special tribute to those lost on 9/11. A highlight of both kids and parents alike was the chance to climb up on the fully restored British Abbot, model FV433 tank brought by the classic military vehicle collecting club The Spokane Motorpool.
After working up an appetite in the NUCA sponsored bounce house, families were able to enjoy a gourmet grilled sandwich from Meltz Extreme Grilled Cheese, a cool sweet treat at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream or a specialty drink from Dutch Bros. while they visited the activity booths sponsored by Western States CAT and the local utility councils IEUCC and KCUC. The custom painted WA 811 Call Before You Dig Corvette drew a crowd as well.
NUCA is happy this weekend of family fun was able to get kids excited about the construction industry from an early age and hopes to get them thinking about pursuing alternate career paths in the skilled labor and trades. After wrapping up the Dozer Day event, NUCA of Eastern WA & North ID is excited to offer financial support once again to multiple non-profits with donations totaling over $15,000 that will benefit the children in our area through non-profit organizations such as Communities in Schools and Children’s Village as well as high school programs including Coeur d’Alene Key Club, Mead Cheerleading and Post Falls Football. Dozer Day truly is a community event, and we hope to see you all there May of 2022 for more construction themed fun!
