Petticoat-Schmitt Announces Staff Changes
Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, a construction firm specializing in water resources, public works, and site development projects, announced the promotion of Bud Carter to Construction Director and the addition of Irana Perez as cost estimator.
A career spanning over four decades with work in 27 states has taught Carter the intricacies of the construction industry and the importance of passing on knowledge to younger generations. Recognizing that junior engineers are the future, in his new role Carter will focus on building the region’s infrastructure as well as company culture, concentrating on increasing efficiencies and overseeing projects while guiding young staff. “I’ve built companies, projects, and buildings — now I get to live my passion, and build people,” Carter said.
Carter was originally attracted to Petticoat-Schmitt due to the firm’s prominent reputation in public works and site development projects; however, he credits their proprietary ELEVATE20™ project delivery process for creating the ideal environment for him to thrive. “Over 40 years in the construction industry has taught me that if your company provides the right tools and resources, employees are happy and the client gets an end-product they can be proud of,” said Carter. He cites ELEVATE20™ as a full-cycle process delivery vehicle that results in a superior project every time. Lauren Atwell, President and COO of Petticoat-Schmitt, said, “Bud approaches projects methodically, aligning with the firm’s commitment to ELEVATE20™ to build a superior project through enhanced processes. The firm will benefit through the vast experience and knowledge in this complex industry that he brings to his team.”
Carter isn’t just intent on imparting his extensive expertise to his team and the growing region — he’s just as passionate about giving time to the community by volunteering for Boys Scouts of America (BSA) and as a supporter of the Shriners.
During Perez’ 17-year career in international and United States-based projects, she has successfully delivered over $200M in construction projects. In her new role, Perez will continue to provide cost estimating services for Petticoat-Schmitt’s clients and engage in critical vendor negotiations to secure optimum materials pricing for each project.
Perez holds an MBA from Humboldt International University, Miami, and a civil engineering degree from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Venezuela. She has worked on high profile projects for Orlando International Airport and Universal Studios as well as projects for master planned communities providing much-needed housing options to the growing Florida region. “We’re excited to welcome Irana to the cost estimating team at Petticoat-Schmitt — her expertise and experience allows her to hit the ground running. Further, her acumen in cost estimating adds significant value to our clients making their projects even more successful,” said Petticoat-Schmitt’s president and COO, Lauren Atwell.
Perez’ commitment to excellence extends beyond her role at Petticoat-Schmitt. She is a tireless supporter on the international humanitarian front serving as a volunteer with One Milk for Venezuela which provides food and medical supplies to children in need.
