Purdue CEM, TTC Team Up to Conduct Auger Boring School

Practical session – Auger Boring School (ABS) – Ruston, LA

The Purdue CEM teamed up with the Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at Louisiana Tech University to conduct the 4th Auger Boring School (ABS) Oct 25-29, 2021, in Ruston, Louisiana. Dr. Tom Iseley, the Beavers Heavy Construction Distinguished Fellow, served as the ABS director.

The 5-day ABS has been developed to provide attendees with the knowledge and background needed to understand the important components of Auger Boring (AB) operations required to produce successful projects. The industry partners and sponsors for this School were Midwest Mole, Barbco Inc., Brierley Associates, United Rentals, Trinity Products, National Clay Pipe Institute (NCPI), American Augers, Trenchless Rental Solutions, and U.S. Shoring & Equipment Co.

Dr. Tom Iseley & Dr. Clifford Schexnayder – ABS banquet

The ABS banquet was held on Oct 27. Dr. Clifford Schexnayder was the banquet guest speaker. He received his PhD in 1980 from Purdue University under the supervision of Dr. Donn Hancher.

Dr. Iseley served as Chair of the fundraising campaign for the Barbera Education, Research & Training (BERT) Facility. The 4th ABS was the first use of the BERT Facility. The BERT facility honors the past through the recognition of the contributions of Leo and Jim Barbera to the trenchless industry. Leo and Jim received the TTC Life Time Achievement Awards in 2018.

Iseley Presented Civil Engineering Wall of Fame Award by ASCE Louisiana Section

Dr. Iseley

The LA Section of ASCE hosted a Virtual Awards Ceremony for the Section’s 2021 Awards on Friday, Sept. 24. Tom Iseley was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Civil Engineering Profession. As the Wall of Fame recipient, Dr. Iseley will be listed on a plaque on the wall at the Louisiana Engineering Foundation Building in Baton Rouge. While Dr. Iseley has been at Purdue, he has established the cooperative relationships with BAMI-I, UESI, and TTC through conducting such programs as Utility Investigation School, Auger Boring School and Certification of Training in Asset Management.
