America Demands Better Infrastructure

The chief executive officer of the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) Doug Carlson issued the following statement reacting to President Biden’s joint address to Congress:

“It is encouraging to see both political parties finally take a serious interest in infrastructure funding. In the water and wastewater sector alone, there are over a half-trillion dollars of projects in the next 10 years that need attention.

“It is important for the Democrats and Republicans to remember the size of our infrastructure needs and why past inattention to maintenance brought on today’s demands. The concrete, cast iron and PVC pipes delivering safe and clean drinking water from treatment plants to our citizens must be considered as much as ‘essential infrastructure’ as highway or bridge projects. And considering so much of our economy is running online today, broadband infrastructure improvements also must be included in the national conversation determining priorities for federal resources.”
