Middle TN Workforce Development Academy Announces First Heavy Equipment Operators Graduating Class

The first class of the Middle TN Workforce Development Academy’s Heavy Equipment operator Class graduated on April 21. The event was held on the campus of Volunteer State Community College. Students received credentials from the National Construction Center for Education Research (NCCER) after having completed classes in Communications, Math, Construction Drawings, Basic Rigging, Material Handling, Handling of Power and Hand Tools, and Employability. The graduates also received certifications in CPR, First Aid, and OSHA10.

Students trained in simulators and on equipment provided by Thompson Machinery, Portland Utilities Construction Co., Parman Tractor & Equipment, and Cleary Construction. Training materials and equipment were provided by Sunbelt Rentals, Rogers Group, United Rentals, Ferguson Waterworks, Pavement Restorations Inc., Badger, and TN 811.

A hiring event was held on April 20 with 12 companies in attendance and to date they have a 93% placement rate. The class is taught by the Middle TN Workforce Development Academy (MTWDA) through association with the National Utility Contractors Association of Middle TN which funded the program.
