NUCA’s 2017 Trench Safety Stand Down Met with Enthusiasm, High Participation

NUCA Trench Safety Stand Down

Endorsed this year by the DOL and OSHA, the NUCA Trench Safety Stand Down (TSSD) was an amazing success, thanks in no small part to all the hard work of members and nonmembers alike. This collaboration reinforces our belief that all industry segments can come together to work for a common purpose — employee safety. This year’s stand down reached five times as many workers as last year. It gives NUCA great pride to see the efforts of contractors who held stand downs at 1,000-plus jobsites and reached more than 11,500 workers, both in the United States and abroad. A stand down was even held at Bagram Airforce Air Field in Afghanistan, where civil engineering airmen teamed up with DOD contractors to hold their own stand down. How’s that for getting the message of safety in the trenches out there?

NUCA would like to thank its Safety Ambassadors Club members for sponsoring this year’s TSSD. The association would also like to thank and commend the following organizations for taking part in NUCA’s 2017 TSSD and making it such a huge success. By devoting your valuable time to the TSSD, you have undoubtedly saved lives and prevented injuries, and if nothing else, helped make employees more aware of excavation hazards and to think before they act.

As you look forward to next year’s TSSD June 18-23, remember that while a stand down is a useful tool to spreading awareness of worker safety, we should remain vigilant every day to ensure we are preventing injury and saving lives in the trenches.
